Memories of a pilot who tragically died in a crash are being shared by his old school friends and teachers.

Jamie Fernandes died at the scene of the M62 crash last Thursday along with fellow pilot Matt Greenhalgh, 28.

Jamie, who was just 24 when he was killed in the crash, was Bolton School old boy.

The school paid tribute to him over the weekend and asked for any memories of him to be shared which could then be passed on to his family.

Philip Britton, head of foundation at Bolton School said: "Our thoughts are very much with Jamie’s family and friends.

"It has been touching over recent days to be sent memories of Jamie from his school friends and from teachers. We will collate those and I know they will be valued."

A statement posted on Bolton School - Old Boys and Old Girls (Official) Facebook Page read: "We are very sad to hear the news of the tragic death of our Old Boy Jamie Fernandes this week.

"A keen hockey player while at school and we were pleased to see him realise his ambition to be a pilot. Our thoughts are with his family and all his friends.

"If @BoltonSchAlumni find it helpful to share memories here we will collate those for the family. If you wish to less publicly then do email development@boltonschool.org.uk."

Matt was a Captain for Ryanair and Jamie a Senior First Officer for the same airline.

They were travelling to Liverpool Airport in a taxi when the collision occurred at 5.31am.

The car was in collision with two lorries on the westbound carriageway between junction 8 and junction 7.

Tragically both died at the scene.

Next of kin are being supported by specialist officers.

The driver of the car was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

The driver of one of the two lorries, a 61-year-old man, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
