A long-established Indian neighbourhood restaurant has announced when it will close.

Lagan in Ladybridge revealed to its customers in February that it would close later this year

The restaurant has served its community for over 20 years, but will reluctantly shut after the lease on the building came to an end.

It initially announced that it would close in October, but over the weekend told customers that it will now close on September 29 this year.

A statement on Lagan's Facebook page said: "Sadly the day has come. We will be firing up our stoves and serving our last meals on September 29th before closing down.

"We have been working tirelessly to look for other venues to relocate, sadly with no luck at present. Thank you again to each and every one of you who have dined with us over our 20+ year tenure.

"Friends truly have become family to all here at Lagan. We will be open as normal until our last date, thereafter we hope to meet you again one day. Team Lagan."

Earlier this year when Lagan first announced it was closing, Raj Das, who co-runs the business, spoke to The Bolton News.

He said that he and his uncles and co-runners, Gebish and Moyna Dey, would miss their customers the most, who were more like "extended family".

This comes after plans have been submitted to Bolton Council to turn the restaurant into a Muslim prayer room.

As well as being a place for prayers, the centre would also hold educational classes and be used as a "community facility", according to its developer.

However, residents have raised concerns over the loss of their neighbourhood eatery, as well as added strains on parking in the area and concerns over noise.

Last month the decision on whether or not to approve the application went to planning committee, with councillors pushing it back for clarification on the points of traffic and noise.

Now, it is set to return to the town hall this Thursday, July 18, with councillors set to decide on the application.
