A man suffered life-threatened injuries after an assault in Farnworth on Wednesday night.

Reports of an assault were made at around midnight yesterday and the victim remains in hospital.

No arrests have been made and police are still making enquiries.

A police cordon and forensic tent were seen on Buckley Lane in Farnworth from the early hours on Thursday morning opposite The Bridgewater Hotel.

A second cordon was in place at an alleyway just off Buckley Lane.

Police remained on the scene throughout the day, with the road shut as investigations got underway.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: “Officers were called to reports of an assault at around 12am on Thursday 11 July.

“The male victim suffered life-threatening injuries and remains in hospital.

“No arrests made, and enquiries are ongoing.”

Police taped off the road before shortening the cordon to the path, outside a number of houses later on yesterday.

Local residents expressed concern as to what had happened.

Residents said that the scene had been in place for most of the day with one reporting they had seen it on their way to work at 6am.

 

The cordon was set up in front of three houses and opposite The Bridgewater Hotel.

A second cordon was in place at an alleyway just off Buckley Lane.

Locals said they were not told what had happened.

A passer-by said that he lives around the back of Buckley Avenue.

He said: “I’ve no idea what’s happened. I only noticed it when I tried to take my dog for a walk and the side ginnel on Prospect Avenue was cordoned off.”
