A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of dangerously driving an off-road bike, among other offences.

The man, stopped in Tyldesley, was also arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, having no licence, and no insurance on Sunday July 7.

Police neighbourhood officers and the Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit had been told earlier that day by the National Police Air Service that an off-road biker was allegedly driving down footpaths and roads

According to police reports, the biker continued to evade capture, mounting pavements, driving on the wrong side of roads, and ignoring traffic lights.

But the NPAS kept tabs on the man, tracing him to Elliot Street in Tyldesley.

Sergeant Dan Canavan, said: “We have made a commitment to the people of Greater Manchester that we will be dealing with anyone who causes any form of anti-social behaviour while riding motorbikes, e-bikes and quadbikes.

“In Wigan, we have listened to the concerns of the local community and we are taking robust action against those who think they can continue to break the law.

“We are using every tool at our disposal under a new operation that was launched in mid-June, we have a lot more to come and we will continue to tackle anti-social behaviour in every way that we can.

“I would continue to urge the community to report any incidents of this nature to us, and as we have shown, we will do all we can to apprehend any suspect.”

The man has since been bailed, pending further enquiries.

This arrest is part of a targeted effort by Greater Manchester Police to curb anti-social behaviour, specifically related to the misuse of motorbikes, e-bikes, and quadbikes.
