Bolton's oldest brewery is toasted a new partnership with Bolton Wanderers FC.

Bank Top Brewery, based in  Astley Bridge, will provide beers to the fan zone at the Toughsheet Community Stadium.

The brewer, which is the oldest in Bolton, will celebrate its 30th anniversary next year.

It provides beers to pubs across the North West, as well as at its own public houses in Horwich, Astley Bridge and Accrington.

To mark the occasion, they are joining forces with the Whites to give its fans some different flavours.

Ben Sweeney, head brewer at Bank Top, said: "It's for the upcoming season, with us being 30 years old next year we were approached by Wanderers to provide ales.

"They were keen to have us in the fanzone.

"We teased it on social media and we've had positive feedback. Hopefully it will get us out to a lot of people.

"Hopefully it goes well. These days Wanderers are doing better and better, the crowds are up at around 20,000 people each game, it is like its heyday in the Premier League, it is pretty unbelievable to be honest."

He added: "It was a no brainer to go for the partnership, with it being so packed these days.

"It will be good to get our name out in front of 20,000 people. We are the oldest brewery in Bolton, we started in 1995, but a lot of people still haven't tried it.

"For whatever reason, people see it as an old man's drink."

One of the beers being served is 'White Horse', named after the 1923 FA Cup Final between Wanderers and West Ham.

The match became dubbed the 'White Horse Final' after the mounted police rushed Wembley Stadium due to fans invading the pitch.

One particular police man riding a white horse was said to have dispersed the fans, with a reported 240,000 showing up to the 127,000 capacity stadium.

The beer is a pale ale and is four per cent ABV.

Ben added: "We're going to have the White Horse, but there will be another guest ale alongside it, which could be any of our other eight beers.

"I really am looking forward to this year, hopefully Wanderers can get promotion and hopefully we can follow them up the leagues."
