It's just rubbish!

A fed-up resident waited more than two months for his wheelie bin - which he paid for - to arrive

Peter Jackson, aged 81, awoke on April 29 this year to find that the grey bin from his house in Harwood had disappeared.

He rang the council to ask for a new bin, being told he had to pay for it.

Mr Jackson, of Roading Brook Road, did as he was asked, paying £34 for the replacement.

However, it was not until Thursday, July 11 that he finally received the bin, over two months after first requesting it.

In the interim, he said he had to make an eight mile round trip from Harwood to the tip at Raikes Lane in order to get rid of his waste.

He said: "They told me it would run a bit late, that is fine, so I went to the tip on a weekly basis to dispose of the kitchen rubbish.

"I went every week for almost the last three months, which is an eight mile round trip, and I'm 81 now - although I suppose at least it gets me out of the house!

"I would speak to people and get put on hold for 30 minutes, I would just get put through from one person to the next. There was no one who could do anything positive.

"I was just going around in circles to be quite honest. I have never seen anything more pathetic in my life."

But then the bin finally arrived last week.

Mr Jackson said: "Then on Thursday I looked out of the window and it had just arrived!

"I was laughing with the delivery guy, because he is just doing his job, it is just the incompetence of the people in the council.

"I put a complaint in to the council. It has been a nightmare to be quite honest."

A spokesperson for Bolton Council said: “The delivery was noted as delivered within three weeks from the order date but unfortunately, we believe it was delivered to the wrong address.

“We are in the process of investigating this. A new bin was delivered to the correct address on Thursday.

“We apologise for the delay in resolving this matter.

“The current delivery period for grey bins is 3-4 weeks.”
