Amir Khan's wedding venue is asking for a late-night licence amid opposition from some of the residents in the surroundings.

The Bolton-born boxer's business partners, Excellency Plaza Limited, applied for the licence for The Balmayna on May 20.

The wedding venue off Deane Road had its first wedding on May 18, two days earlier, but now it is asking for a late-night licence to allow it to open until 12.30am and to provide music and other performances until 12am every day.

The application is up for consideration by a Licensing Sub-Committee of three councillors at the town hall this week.

There is opposition from some of the residents in the surroundings in particular as a result of the risk of noise nuisance.

Excellency Plaza Limited said it would take action in consultation with the council to reduce the risk of noise nuisance.

One of the residents said: "I live opposite the facility on Deane Road and I hear everything happening on the main road.

"Therefore any noise from the facility during late hours will make noise pollution for the community and will make it impossible to sleep."
