St Catherine's CE Primary School in Horwich is getting a playground upgrade, courtesy of a generous donation from Morris Homes.

The leading homebuilder has given £400 towards revamping the school's playground, fulfilling a much-needed wish for school children and parents alike.

Morris Homes collaborated with the school's Parent Teacher Association (PTA) on this project.

The funds donated by the homebuilder have already made a significant impact, allowing the school to buy a 45-foot inflatable assault course and a ten-foot inflatable slide that the kids enjoyed in the Summer Fayre on July 5.

The funds generated from the sale of the inflatables will go towards the playground upgrade and additional short-term support for activities such as the school Christmas parties.

The donation will also help to maintain the reading corner of the playground that encourages children to enjoy books in an informal setting.

Rebecca Thaell, a member of the school's PTA, said: "The support of businesses working in our local area is invaluable and the Morris Homes donation will make a considerable impact on our fundraising total for the key stage one playground upgrades.

“Once our fundraising target has been met, we are hoping to provide the school with a range of open-ended play equipment that includes modular building blocks.

"These are great for imaginative, independent play and encourage children to get creative, building forts, climbing structures and towers – the options are endless.

"It's all worthwhile when you see the delight on the children's faces as we unveil new additions to the playground."

Recently, the school's junior playground witnessed the installation of a trim trail, thanks to the PTA's 22/23 fundraising efforts.

Rachel MacCutchan, sales director at Morris Homes, said: "The plans for the playground upgrade will provide creative, rich play environments for the young people living on or nearby the Rivington Chase regeneration project and for us, it was an easy decision to provide support and help make this happen."

MacCutchan went on to say that such projects underline Morris Home's commitment to supporting community-driven initiatives.

She said: “We understand how important quality play is for children and young people’s education – particularly in the early years settings - and very much look forward to the unveiling of the new playground equipment at the school.”

Morris Homes has also recently launched the Rivington Park development, a few miles away in Horwich, which will include 444 high-quality new homes.
