A Bolton business with a famous family at its helm is to build on its success over the last few years by creating a dozen additional roles at the firm.

Amscreen is creating the additional roles at its base on Logistics North, Over Hulton, where it brought all its work under one roof two years ago.

The Bolton business began in the 2000s when Amshold, a company belonging to the face of The Apprentice Alan Sugar, bought Comtech, a company with a history in the area already. Sir Alan, now Lord Sugar, became the chairman and his son, Simon Sugar, became the chief executive.

Currently it has 64 employees at its base on Logistics North to manufacture and to monitor thousands of advertising screens for use across the continent but its ambition is to hire another 12 employees from engineers to a Head of New Production Introduction and a Head of Software.

A spokesperson said: "We are committed to investing in Bolton.

Previously The Bolton News went to Logistics North where chief executive Mr Sugar spoke about the importance of the move to the logistics park.

Before Amscreen's move to the logistics park, delayed due to the coronavirus crisis, it was at two separate sites in Middlebrook and Westhoughton.

Mr Sugar told The Bolton News: "It is hard having two different offices in two different locations. It is important for our people to talk to one another. 

"The engineers need support from the factory and the factory need support from the engineers. Now we are all under one roof it makes a lot of sense."

Earlier in 2024 the business made the milestone of manufacturing and monitoring 6,000 advertising screens in a dozen countries across the continent.
