Later this month, one of the showpiece events of the summer - the Royal Lancashire Show - will be held.
Now based in the grounds of Salesbury Hall, the event has a strong Bolton connection.
In 1950 the show was held in the grounds of Smithills Hall and as you can see from the aerial photograph it occupied a large area.
Work on transforming the site had begun the year before with new trackways and roads being built and large storerooms being constructed to house the timber needed to construct the many pavilions and buildings for the site.
Nearer the time, wooden fencing was put up to create the various show rings and huge marquees appeared.
Part social occasion, part celebration of the area’s farming community, the show attracted thousands of visitors.
This year, the show runs from July 19 to 21.
