Hygiene is very important for any service which provides food and drink to the public.
The Food Standards Agency hands out ratings to all businesses and organisations which provide food in the UK.
It was set up in 2000 following several high-profile outbreaks of foodborne illness such as mad cow disease.
From takeaways to restaurants to ice cream vans, a wide range of businesses are surveyed by the body.
Supermarkets are one such business type, and we have listed the 38 supermarkets in Bolton which have the top rating, five stars, meaning "hygiene standards are very good".
