A man is in hospital and a stop and search order is in place after an "incident" today, Friday.
Police have said they are responding to the incident on Manchester Road East in Little Hulton, but have not given any indication of what the incident is.
A 55-year-old man has been taken to hospital with "superficial" injuries and a scene is in place in efforts to understand the circumstances, say police.
A Section 60 stop and search order has also been put in place for a large area in the town.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "We are currently responding to an incident on Manchester Road East in Little Hulton.

"A 55-year-old man has been taken to hospital with superficial injuries that are thankfully not believed to be life threatening or life changing.
"A scene is in place and enquires are ongoing to understand the circumstances. Additional officers have been deployed to the area. If you have any concerns or information, please speak to them.
"A section 60 has been authorised to cover Mort Lane railway Bridge, east along the railway boundary towards Hilton Lane, Ellesmere Street, Ridgard Street, Eastham Way, Cleggs Lane, Old Lane, Captain Fold, Manchester Road, Kenyon Way, Armitage Avenue, to Mort Lane.
"Under Section 60, officers have extra powers to stop and search people in a defined area within the specific times listed. It will be in place until 11am tomorrow, Saturday June 29."
