This photo from just over 50 years ago shows just how busy Bolton town centre would be during the festive season.
Taken on December 16, 1972, the number of Christmas shoppers meant that police had to be brought in to supervise the crowds crossing Deansgate.
The photo shows two of Bolton’s most popular town centre shops - Woolworth’s on the right and Boots on the left.
Just look at the number of folk crossing the road - many of them have bags, no doubt filled with presents in preparation for the Big Day.
