A scheme to open a new discount supermarket has taken another major step forward.
Last December, Lidl was given the go-ahead to open a new store on land off Darwen Road, Bromley Cross, after a long running debate.
Now plans have been approved for signage including a flagpole, two logo signs and a large, illuminated billboard at the site close to Bromley Cross train station.
A statement from planning consultants Rapley LLP said: “The proposed signage scheme has been designed to a high-quality specification in terms of materials and design.
“The high-quality illumination proposed will ensure that the proposed signage scheme will not compromise public safety by causing an obstruction or distraction from the surrounding road network.
“The proposed signage will be in keeping with the design and appearance of other signage within the surrounding retail park.
“As such, the proposal is considered to respect the local environment and does not have any adverse impacts upon amenity.”
The land off Darwen Road had previously been occupied by the former Hollands Nurseries site.
The latest step of the proposal, including plans for the signage, had been put for the council on Wednesday, May 29 this year.
It contains proposals for a total of seven signs, which will include five on the building facing the car park.
There will also be a billboard near the main entrance and a small-scale parking sign near the site.
The plan to build the new Lidl was brought back to the council’s planning committee in June last year after having been quashed in the high court in a challenge by the Co-operative Group.

Representative for the Co-operative Group had said they did not object to competition but had concerns about some of the development falling on green belt land.
The most recent version included the plan for the supermarket, with a 125-space car park along with a total of 43 retirement apartments and new pitches for Bromley Cross FC.
The committee decided to recommend the plan to the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities’ approval and in December last year the scheme was approved.
The council announced that it had approved the signage plan on Thursday, June 20 this year.
