Large load at Hulton Lane and St Helens Road, 1953
Now that’s what you call an over-sized load!
This giant gas washer had been manufactured by John Booth and Sons in Bolton and was was being taken to a firm in Bury in 1953 when this photo was taken.
The boiler measured 40-feet in length and was eight feet high. The lorry is seen at the junction of Hulton Lane and St Helens Road at the start of its journey.
