Traffic has been slow moving on the M6 after an accident near Preston caused heavy delays.

M6 southbound in Lancashire between J32 M55 and J31a Preston was experiencing delays due to a collision earlier this evening.

A spokesman for the National Highways North West said at the time of the accident: "Traffic has been STOPPED on the #M6 southbound in #Lancashire between J32 (#M55) and J31a (#Preston) due to a collision.

"All emergency services are attending the scene.

"Long delays are building on approach. More information to follow soon."

Traffic was later eased on the motorway after police cleared the incident.

A spokesman for the National Highways North West said: "This incident has now cleared, and all lanes have re-opened on the #M6 southbound in #Lancashire between J32 (#M55) and J31a (#Preston).

"A 30 minute delay remains in the area but should now start to ease.

"Thanks for your patience if you were held up this evening."

Traffic is still stuck in this area with some delays but it is moving and easing steadily.
