A Bolton priest has been hailed as “an example to us all” after being honoured by the Pope for incredible 65 years in the priesthood.

Father Marian Juszczyk first came to England from Poland in 1971 and still helps with services at St Patrick’s Catholic Church in Bolton town centre at the age of 91.

He has now celebrated the 65th anniversary of his ordination with a ceremony attended by the Mayor and Mayoress of Bolton, other civic dignitaries and even recognition from Pope Francis.

Mayor of Bolton Cllr Andy Morgan said: “We were treated to some beautiful Polish food.

“As the Mayor I would like to thank Father Marian for his service to not only the Church but to all of Bolton.”
