A mum has paid tribute to her loving daughter who died at the age of just 36.

Kirsty Leanne Smith from Haydock Street in Bolton died on December 6, 2023.

An inquest into her death took place this week.

Miss Smith was found at home by her partner, and a friend.

Tragically she was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

The cause of death was given as hanging.

Her mum, Joanne Ivy Roberts said: “I have always said she would die before me and I always thought it would be the drugs, but I did not expect it would be this way.

“She had a good side and would help people out, but usually the wrong type of people.

“I did not know about the methadone, as she told me it was due to painkiller addiction.

Mrs Roberts said Miss Smith had a good childhood.

Miss Smith, who had been diagnosed with a personality disorder, started smoking cannabis from a young age and took various drugs for most of her life, the inquest heard.

She became homeless at one point in her life and moved from partner to partner before her recent relationship, who was described as ‘lovely’ and a ‘nice lad’ by her mum.

Her relationship with mum Ms Robert was described as ‘strained’ due to her lifestyle but after Miss Smith started seeing her recent partner, their relationship improved, and they would have tea together.

Coroner Micheal James Pemberton said ‘You were so worried it was out of character and if there had been problems, she would come and talk to you.’

Ms Roberts said: “I do believe her mental health was bad and she missed a lot of appointments, but I do not think she meant to do it, she just went too far.

Dr Patrick Waugh, the consultant pathologist, gave the medical cause of death as hanging.

Various drugs were found in Miss Smith’s toxicology report, as well as alcohol.

Miss Smith was known to drugs and alcohol recovery service but failed to attend appointments on numerous occasions.

Mr Pemberton said: “I am not satisfied to rule this as a suicide, as I do not think we can say what Kirsty’s intentions were.

“Kirsty was in and out with care offered by services, and it is clear that when she could, she would be committed but if there were other things to tempt her, then she was taken in the wrong direction.

“I know it has been difficult for the family, she was a loving daughter and had the support of her family behind her.”
