A major road was closed earlier this afternoon after police and ambulances were called out to a "concern for welfare."

The call was made after 2pm from Hall Lane, near Moses Gate Country Park and Little Lever School.

Emergency services were reported at the scene and a long stretch of Hall Lane was closed.

Parents at nearby schools were warned of potential disruption.

One message stated: "The police have closed the the road between Hall Lane, Moses Gate and school.

"If you are picking up your child please find an alternative route.

"Your child will not be able to walk to Moses Gate from school.

"The school bus will not be able to access the school site and any children on the school bus will be either held in school or advised to make their own way home."

One motorist said: "I passed it by and the road was completely shut, with GMP on the scene.

"I have no idea what is happening but they seemed to be looking over the bridge."
