A bid for a boiler room was approved for Westhoughton High School amid concern it would cause noise nuisance.

Bolton Council applied for planning permission for the site of the council-run high school on Bolton Road this year.

The bid for a boiler room consists of a single-storey extension of around 25 square metres to contain essential equipment for Westhoughton High School and next-door neighbour Westhoughton Leisure Centre.

There was concern it would cause noise nuisance from two residents but it was approved by the planning committee when it met at the town hall last week in line with the report prepared by the planning officer.

A report said: "It is considered that the proposed development would not unduly harm the appearance and character of the area and would not unduly harm the amenity of neighbouring residents. Members are therefore recommended to approve this application."
