Businesses in Bolton are set to benefit from bespoke support from a new innovation programme aimed at accelerating commercialisation and growth.

Innovation Navigator, launched by the Greater Manchester Business Growth Hub, is laser focused on turbocharging business innovation projects from delivery to market, promptly, without complication and at no cost to the business.

It is a perfect fit for those businesses who operate or want to operate in the artificial intelligence (AI), data and advanced computing, diagnostics and genomics, and sustainable advanced materials sectors.

The initiative, which is set to run until March 2025, will see businesses in the area receive specialist advice aimed at bringing new ideas to the market, they will gain greater knowledge, transfer skills and the programme will equip them with the skills in the business for future growth.

Yvonne Grady, Head of Innovation at the Greater Manchester Business Growth Hub, said: “This is a fantastic programme which will benefit key businesses in the artificial intelligence, data and advanced computing, diagnostics, genomics and sustainable advanced material sectors across Bolton.

“Innovation Navigator aims to springboard technological change so we can bring new products and services to the market at a faster pace which will enable businesses across the area to take full advantage of the emerging technologies at their fingertips.

“This work is set to be a game-changer for them and we believe it will bring benefits to local residents too.”

The Local Innovation Connector (LIC) in Bolton will identify local businesses who are suitable to progress with the programme.

They will be visible at local networks and events, and are the first point of contact for businesses. After the business has been introduced to the local LIC, they will receive ongoing support from a relevant and highly experienced Commercialisation Specialist (CS) who can navigate the business and take their project forward.

The Bolton LIC will also help their local businesses to access a £1.6 million Innovation Grant Fund.

And Innovation Navigator will help to unlock local academic knowledge, with the University of Bolton, Manchester Metropolitan University, the University of Salford and the University of Manchester all opening their doors to share resources, encourage R&D and begin meaningful collaboration.

Businesses can also tap into the expertise of industry associations, business support services, local government, Research Technology Organisations and the private sector throughout Greater Manchester and beyond.

Oliver Witty, LIC for Bolton, added: “I'm enthusiastic about the opportunity to collaborate with cutting-edge companies in search of knowledge exchange and specialised commercialisation assistance.

“There are world-class innovation assets close to home and I’m here to make sure that pioneering Bolton businesses can benefit from them. I’m really approachable, so please do get in touch.”
