Three people from Bolton have been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours list.
More than 1,000 people from across the UK received honours in today’s list, Friday, June 14, this included Post Office campaigner Alan Bates, former prime minister Gordon Brown and artist Tracey Emin amongst the famous faces recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours list.
In Bolton, there are three people who are set to receive an award.
- Karen Elaine Bramwell, Chief Executive Officer at the Forward As One Church of England Multi-Academy Trust in Bolton, will be awarded an OBE for services to Education.
- Simon David Lewis, Senior Manager at the Department for Work and Pensions, will be awarded an OBE for services to Capability and Learning.
- Halima Hashim Atcha, Diversity and Inclusion Lead, North West and North Central, Work and Health Service at the Department for Work and Pensions, will be awarded an OBE for services to Diversity and Inclusion.
The highest award has gone to Gordon Brown who was made a Companion of Honour, while Sir Alan Bates was knighted in recognition of his campaigning work which highlighted the Post Office Horizon scandal.
The youngest recipient in the list was 20-year-old Shamza Butt who received a British Empire Medal for her work at the voluntary development programme National Citizen Service on behalf of young people.
Harold Jones was the oldest recipient, who at 100 years old received a British Empire Medal for his fundraising for motor neurone disease charities in Sutton Coldfield in the West Midlands.
Award organisers said 64 per cent of recipients were people who showed “outstanding work” in their communities either in a voluntary or paid capacity, adding that 66 per cent of recipients lived outside London and the South East.
Of the 1,077 people honoured in the 2024 list, 509 were women – representing 48 per cent of the total – and 10 per cent of all successful candidates were from an ethnic minority background.
At CBE level and above, 40 per cent of recipients were women.
