The police tasered a man to stop him from self-harming outside the library in Little Hulton.

They attended an incident outside the library on Longshaw Drive on Wednesday (June 12).

According to a post on social media by GMP Salford the following day, the man was "agitated" and in possession of "a blade", and the police tasered him to stop him from self-harming. 

The post on social media said it was to protect him and to protect members of the public.

Paramedics took him into hospital where he is stable and receiving support and treatment.

The post on social media said: "The actions of the officers saved the male's life and protected members of the public from potential serious injury."
