An "incredibly happy school" has been rated "outstanding" by the education watchdog for the fourth time in a row.

Grosvenor Nursery School on Lord Street in Farnworth received the highest possible score after an Ofsted inspection on March 14.

In the report, His Majesty’s Inspector Tim Vaughan and Ofsted inspector Sandra Hamilton said: "Over several years of considerable change, the headteacher, other leaders and the governing body have made sure that this school continues to thrive."

The report, published on Thursday, April 30, praised the nursery’s determination.

It states: “With a determined focus on its curriculum, teaching, staffing and finance, the school has ensured that children in each classroom receive an exceptional early years education.

“It has achieved its ambition to provide families with a high quality school linked to a day care provision on the same site.

“This means that children and families can access a wide range of provision more easily, including the school’s popular, volunteer-run lending library.”

The report added: “Children, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), settle quickly into the extremely well organised routines that the school has established. Children feel safe.”

The nursery school was also commended for the curriculum.

The report said: “The school has thought very carefully about the key knowledge that it wants children to learn.

“It provides staff with the coaching and guidance that they need to understand the school’s curriculum.

“Well-trained staff make learning deeply meaningful and engaging.

“It is no surprise that children love coming to school. Children achieve very well.

"They are richly prepared for the next stage of their learning.”

Headteacher Sue Pounds, said: “I am delighted that the school has retained its outstanding judgement by Ofsted for the fourth consecutive time!

“Children, staff, parents and governors are thrilled that their nursery school, which has been at the heart of the community for almost 75 years, has been recognised for its high quality early years education and for the wonderful work it does with young children and their families.”
