A warning has gone out over “bogus callers” taking payment to clean people’s gutters and leaving without doing any work.

Police say they have had reports of men around Hooton Street in Daubhill taking people’s money for cleaning guttering and checking and fixing roof tiles.

They say that after failing to hand over any contact details and then taking people’s money, the men then leave without any work having been done.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “We have recently had a report of males around Hooton Street, Rumworth, offering to clean residents’ gutters and taking payment for repairs yet to be carried out.

“When the residents have asked the males for their company and personal details, they have claimed other neighbours have their contact numbers and have left the area.

“No works have been carried out on this occasion, but the individuals have left with the money handed to them by the resident.

“Bogus callers will try and use a range of tactics to trick people including pretending to be from a legitimate company and gain access to your home where the intention is to steal from you.”
