Bolton Market’s new food market has officially opened – and we went down to have a look around.
The newly-built food hall offers a range of international foods – including Japanese, Caribbean, Kebabs, burgers, curry, and more – as well as soft and alcoholic drinks.
Not all the stalls are yet open – with some opening next week, but there’s already a lot to try.
Sean Gallacher (pictured) aged 40, from Bromley Cross, wandered in to the food market on the off-chance – and was sat with a pint while waiting for his curry.
He said: “I’m a regular customer at the market, wandering past I saw they were building it, I was wondering what was going on. I saw today it was open, came in and it’s some of my favourite places think.
“I’ve gone for the biryani and some chicken rice, absolutely quality dishes.
“It’s a nice range, you can get drinks and a really good range of food from all over the world, I think it’s a very good thing for Bolton.”

One of the restaurants already open in the food hall was Cluck Cluck Chicken.
Run by duo Lewis Yim and Hebe Wong, the new food stall offers Hainanese chicken and White Curry Pork Chops.
Hebe said she was ‘really excited’ about opening.
Lewis said: “We used to cook in Hong Kong before, we wanted to start our business here to try what people like – chicken and pork chops – we’ve just tried these two dishes first.”
He added: “Bolton Market is quite famous in Bolton, everyone who comes here – this new food court, we think it should be a very good place for us to start a new business.”

Anissa Lau, who is friends with the duo, and a regular visitor to the market, said she thought the space was a ‘very nice’ addition.
She added: “I can buy fresh fruit, vegetables, and groceries – it’s very good. I will come often, maybe every week.”
A couple of stalls down is burger stand ‘What’s Your Beef’. As well as offering meat, the stand also offers vegan options such as a vegan burger and salt and pepper ‘tots’.
Eddie Pope, aged 44, runs the stand with his business partner.
He said: “It’s a fantastic venue.
“We’ve been going for nearly ten years, we’ve been coming to Bolton Food and Drink Festival every year since 2015, we’re very well-known in Bolton, and the council asked us to come into the new site, so we’ve come to try and provide more burgers ahead of opening.
“I think it’s got potential to be a fantastic venue, everything’s very well set out – I’m full of optimism.”
The new food hall’s opening days are:
Tuesday, 11am – 5.00pm
Thursday, 11am – 5.00pm
Friday, 11am – 9.30pm
Saturday, 11am – 9.30pm
