A Hall i’th’ Wood resident is fed up with the state of the open spaces on her estate, saying she wouldn’t even let a dog use them.

Jane Jackson has lived on the Spinning Green estate since May 2019.

She’s fed up with the condition of the estate’s outdoor spaces.

Despite trying to contact the developers, Jane said she has been ‘getting nowhere’.

The 44-year-old said: “There’s been absolutely no maintenance whatsoever by Taylor Wimpey or Bellway, which were the dual developers on site."

Development company Taylor Wimpey confirmed it had not yet handed over the open spaces to the property management company, and said it was working with developer Bellway to complete groundworks and landscaping before handing it over.

This is contrary to what Jane was told in an email received in February – with Taylor Wimpey telling her the spaces had been handed over to a management company and that the company “wouldn't really get involved” – something the company backtracked on a month later.

Jane said the state of the open spaces makes her feel ‘awful’ – with broken fences and sodden ground a regular problem, alongside broken equipment and signage.

She added: “I wouldn’t even let a dog on here, let alone the kids. It’s pitiful, it really is.”

Another problem is rubbish – with no dog poo bin, Jane says people regularly put faeces in a rubbish bag on the fence surrounding the park.

Despite problems with landscaping, Jane said the estate is mostly safe.

However, there has been vandalism – with graffiti and broken equipment.

Jane said: “There’s been a few incidents lately with kids coming on, and because of the state of the park they’ve caused more damage to the fence, and pulled parts of the play equipment out and thrown it on to the park.

“When it rains this gets saturated, you can see at the bottom of the fence where the fence is all sodden because it just pools with water, which is why there’s no grass growing – because it’s always saturated.”

She added: “Last year I got told that the work would be done last summer, so now it’s summer this year almost, and they’re still obtaining quotes – it’s not Chelsea Park, it’s just a little recreational area in Bolton, so I’m sure they could sort it out.”

A Taylor Wimpey spokesperson said: “We are sorry that the condition of the site at our Spinning Green development is not up to our usual high standards, and we apologise to residents for any disappointment caused.

“We would like to reassure residents that we are already gathering quotes to complete works including fencing repairs, grass cutting and fixing any broken playground equipment. We hope to start these works within the next month, and are committed to delivering the required improvements.”
