A councillor in Bolton has been announced as the Conservative Party's candidate in a constituency in the town for the forthcoming general election.

Mark Logan won Bolton North East for the Conservatives with a small majority of 378 during the party's landslide win in 2019.

But shortly after the election was announced Mr Logan shocked people by announcing that this time he would be voting Labour.

And following this Adele Warren, who represents the Breightmet ward on the local authority, has been selected to fight the seat.

She said: "I am delighted that I have been selected as the Conservative candidate for Bolton North East in the upcoming general election."

Prior to Mr Logan's victory in 2019 the seat had been won by Labour since 1997 with David Crausby representing it for those 22 years.

Before this it had been Conservative from its creation in 1983.

The seat contains areas such as Astley Bridge, Bradshaw, Breightmet, Bromley Cross, Crompton, Halliwell, and Tonge with the Haulgh.

She came second in the ward with 1,293 votes and 41.9 per cent of the total.

She has previously served as cabinet member for Regeneration and Development at Bolton Council.

Other candidates contesting the marginal seat include Kirith Entwistle for Labour, Hanif Alli for the Greens, Rebecca Forrest for the Liberal Democrats and Trevor Jones for Reform UK
