Now that’s not something you see every day - two white horses being ridden through Bolton town centre.
This photo was taken in March 1960 and shows the riders and their mounts passing through the traffic lights at the end of Knowsley Street at the junction with St George’s Road.
You can just make out the junction with Bark Street, a turning off to the right with Back Bark Street running behind the United Reformed Church which is still standing today.
It’s interesting to see the variety of shops on Knowsley Road at the time - Grey’s TV and radio, Doris Heywood furriers, Proffits and possibly an opticians and a shoe shop.
It’s interesting to see all the cars parked on Knowsley Street - not a sign of any double yellow lines back then.
