Greater Manchester Police have warned people to ‘remain vigilant’ after an increase in pickpocketing.

Police are patrolling the town centre after an increase in reported thefts.

It comes just months after town centre shopkeepers told The Bolton News of an increase in abuse and shoplifting.

Earlier this year, officers set up a dedicated taskforce to tackle the crime, with arrests made for shoplifting, vehicle crime, and burglaries across the borough.

GMP’s sergeant Jessica Prudence said: “There has been an increase in theft from persons reported within Bolton Town Centre, particularly by means of pick pocketing.

“We are currently investigating these reports and are working hard to identify the persons responsible.

“Officers will be patrolling the town centre to prevent crime and provide reassurance to the community.

“Please remain vigilant, ensuring you keep all bags and pockets securely fastened and all valuables out of sight in order.”
