Roadworks on carriageways heading towards Manchester Airport will begin next month.

Resurfacing of slip roads and replacement of markings will take place on the M56 between Junction 5 and 6.

As a result some full road closures will be put in place.

The works are scheduled to be completed by the end of August.

The following roads will be closed from 9pm to 5am on these dates, with the closure running until 7am on Saturday.

The M56 eastbound junction 6 to 4 on Tuesday 11 and Wednesday 12 June and on Monday 8 to Wednesday 10 July.

The M56 eastbound junction 6 to 5 on Thursday 13 and Friday 14 June, Monday 24 to Thursday 27 June and Thursday 4 and Friday 5 July.

The M56 eastbound junction 7 to 5 Monday 16 to Friday 21 June.

The 56 westbound junction 5 to 6 Monday 15, Tuesday 16, Thursday 18 and Friday 19 July, Monday 22 to Friday 26 July, Monday 29 and Tuesday 30 July, Sunday 4, Thursday 9 and Friday 9 August.

The following slip roads will also be closed.

The eastbound exit slip at junction 5 will be closed on Friday 28 June and the westbound exit slip road junction on Wednesday 17 July.

A spokesperson for National Highways said: "To ensure journeys are maintained diversion routes will be clearly signposted and can be found at the bottom of this webpage. Please do not follow your satnav during any closure and check your journey before you travel.

"We always aim to work to our schedule, but unforeseen circumstances such as severe weather conditions may mean slight changes occur at short notice."
