The Bolton News: Sam's Bar, Bradshawgate, Bolton, 1990

Sam’s Bar on Bradshawgate was being marketed as ‘the place to be for the 18 to 30s’.

Boddingtons had spent £150,000 on refurbishing the former Prince William pub to attract a younger clientele.

It would become just the second Sam’s Bar in the North West with the brewery planning on opening several more during the year.

One of the main features of the bar was its extensive drinks offering which included ‘fine wines, Champagne and a choice of more than 20 cocktails’.

The pub’s impressive facade dated from a much earlier time advertising Swales & Co’ Ales.

Originally dating back to the 1970s, the venue has undergone many name changes - Camra, the Campaign for Real Ale, estimates that it has been known under 14 different names over the years.

Sam’s Bar lasted for a while but the pub would close in 2017. It was only last year that the premises reopened as Prince Billy’s s a nod to the establishment’s long history in the town.
