Emergency gas repairs led to the closure of a town centre road - leading to confusion among motorists.
Manor Street leading into Bank Street was shut yesterday morning and is likely to remain so for several days.
Diversions signs were in place yesterday, but motorists continued to drive up towards Bank Street - and later that day cones were placed to separate on coming traffic.
A spokesperson for Bolton Council said: “Due to emergency gas repairs, Manor Street has had to be closed in one direction coming from Folds Road.
"The work is expected to be complete by 3 June 2024.”
Drivers cannot turn left into Manor Street while the work is in progress.

One driver noticed the chaos and said the council should be warned of what was happening, as they also thought it was Bank Street that was closed.
She said: "It is very confusing, yesterday I followed the diversion signs, but today it seemed drivers could legitimately travel up Bank Street, so I did so.
"It is confusing."
