A “drone pilot” has been stopped by police after reports that banned substances were being flown into a prison.
Police say they have received increased reports about “prohibited articles” being flown into HMP Hindley.
An investigation was launched and officers say that they then found a large number of these items attached to a drone.
A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: “Last week, following an increased number of reports of drones being flown and conveying prohibited articles into HMP Hindley the neighbourhood team have conducted a multi-agency operation in attempts to tackle the offences.
“This resulted in a pilot being located with a large quantity of prohibited articles attached to a drone.
“This was seized and the investigation is still ongoing.
“There will be an increased number of patrols in the area tackling this ongoing issue.”
An image supplied by police shows what appears to be the drone with bagged up materials.
