A rapist from Bolton failed to comply with the requirements of the sex offenders register.

Patrick Kane was convicted of rape in 2009 and placed on the register for life.

But in November last year he failed to complete his annual renewal.

Bolton Magistrates Court heard he was aware of it but was late in doing so.

Ann Deakin, prosecuting, said: “He was convicted of rape in 2009 and bade the subject to the sex offender notification requirements for life.

 “He was due to complete the annual requirements on November 7, 2023.

“He did complete it on November 9.

“He has had previous breaches.

“He admitted his breach and offered an apology.”

At court Kane, 42 and from Chorley New Road, Heaton, Bolton, pleaded guilty to failing to comply with the requirements of the sex offenders register.

Adam Whittaker, defending, said this had been due to his chaotic lifestyle.

He said: “Police went to the hostel where he was staying.

“The carried out a contemporaneous interview.

“He said he thought he had a three day grace period.

“They said there is no grace period.

“He then apologises.

“This is due to his chaotic lifestyle.

“He knows he is going to be on the register for life.”

Chair of the bench Joanne Halliday imposed a community order to last for a year.

She placed him on a drug rehabilitation activity requirement to last for a period of nine months and also fined him £50.

As well as having to renew details annuals, those placed on the sex offenders register must tell police about changes to their name or address.

They must also notify police about all foreign travel and if they do not have a residence at one set place must inform police weekly of a place in which they can be found regularly.
