This is the moment a bungling car thief was cornered by police following a high-speed chase - after driving into a subway and getting stuck.
The dopey crook was arrested by officers when they drove into the pedestrian underpass in a stolen VW Golf and had “nowhere left to go”.
The black vehicle was originally nicked in Bolton, and then failed to stop when it was later spotted by cops in Huyton, Merseyside, on Sunday (May 26).
And during a chase, the motorist crashed into two other cars before making the mistake of driving into the subway.
Merseyside Police said in a post on X: “This VW Golf was stolen in Bolton and failed to stop for patrols in Huyton, colliding with two members of the public’s vehicles in the process.
“The pursuit ended when the vehicle entered a subway (yes a subway) and had nowhere left to go.”
Bolton police are currently running Operation Classify which was set up at the start of this year by officers from Bolton’s Prevention Hub which targets particular high-risk road routes in the area which has seen significant collisions over the past two years.
The aim of Operation Classify is to reduce death and serious injury on the roads of Bolton, which saw 71 serious collisions in 2022, nine of them sadly being fatalities. This trend continued into 2023.
Excessive speeding alongside drink and drug driving and driver standards have been the main key causes of road traffic collisions in the area.
