It was the first cotton spinning mill in Bolton and in 1994 when this picture was taken, the news had come through that part of the town’s industrial heritage was to be saved.

St Helena Mill dated to 1767 when it first operated as a water-powered mill before steam power subsequently took over.

The Home Office had announced it was to spend £1 million converting the premises into headquarters for the probation service in the town.
