The second day of Bolton Pride is to go ahead despite a yellow weather warning for thunderstorms in the town.

Yesterday, Boltonians marched from the University of Bolton to Victoria Square via Bradshawgate in perfect weather, as onlookers cheered and sounded their horns in support.

Speaking this morning, festival director Kevin Wright said the sunshine was ‘trying to come out’, and that the stage may need to be suspended if the forecasted thunder does appear.

For now, though, the festival continues until 5pm – with stalls open and music playing on stage.

Running on two hours’ sleep, Kevin said: "Yesterday was a great success. It’s great to see people come together for the festival in the town as it continues to grow.

“We look forward to continuing year on year."

According to the Met Office, thunder is set to appear in Bolton from 1pm today through until 5pm, appearing again later in the evening.

The warning says spray and sudden flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures on Sunday, May 26, from 12pm to 8pm.

There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, with damage to some buildings from floodwater and lightning strikes.

There is also a small chance that some communities become temporarily cut off by flooded roads.
