The service is being funded by Community Rail Network, CrossCountry Trains, Lancashire County Council, Transport for Greater Manchester and HM Government via the Bus Service Improvement Plan initiative.

Horwich Town Council is also supporting the project.

Julie Levy, chair of the South-East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership which has co-ordinated the project, said: “We’re delighted to be able to run the Rivington Rambler once again, this time with even better links to both Horwich Parkway and Chorley stations.

“It will open up the beautiful Rivington Gardens and Pike to many more people who cannot travel there by car and help to reduce congestion and pollution as people with cars can now choose to travel by bus.”

Matt Davies, Managing Director of Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire said: “It’s great to see the return of the 125R service. With the route also being extended through to Chorley for 2024 we are confident that the service will encourage our customers to get out and about to explore all the fantastic activities which are available in the West Pennines area.

“We are delighted that Stagecoach will be working with South East Lancashire Community Rail Partnership to provide a special service once again to the beautiful area of Rivington.”
