Bolton Wanderers FC has apologised after fans were wrongly charged for parking at the stadium on Saturday to get the coach to Wembley.

On Saturday, May 18, the Whites made their way down to London for the League One play-off final.

Supporters were ultimately left disappointed on the day after Wanderers lost 0-2 to Oxford United

But some fans arrived home only to find out they had been charged for parking, when they were told it would be free.

Free parking had been offered to supporters on "official coaches" on Car Park C at Wanderers' stadium, as detaile don the club website.

But, fans reported in the following days that they had been  charged for parking.

Bolton Wanderers has said it is aware of the "technical issue" and is "in the process of providing refunds for all those affected".

Chris Wordley said: "To my disbelief, I was charged £10 plus a 39p 'convenience charge'.

"I had bought two coach tickets through the Bolton Wanderers website, so once further information was released via socials, I checked it and read it through, reading that car parking would be free of charge."

The parking company he used has tried to take payment from his account three times, which declined "due to the account" Chris uses.

He added: "I use a bank account where I keep money separate from my primary account, so not expecting to be charged I had no money in the account.

"Evology have now tried three times to take the payment from my account, after receiving emails that it was being resolved.

"I haven't put any money in for it to be refunded.

"I assumed that they would manually resolve the issue. I'm at a complete loss now on what to do."

Charles Cooper said: "I've not seen anything to say that the money has come into my account, which I would expect to have done.

"They said it would come in this week, but we are only on Friday.

"I am hoping it is just a cock-up rather than a conspiracy."

A spokesperson for Bolton Wanderers FC said: "All parking cameras and payment machines on car parks used by supporters at the Toughsheet Community Stadium who travelled to the Play-Off Final were turned off for the full duration to allow supporters to travel to Wembley and return back to Bolton.

"For the minority of Wanderers’ fans who use the Evology parking app, due to the locator technology on the app, these supporters have been automatically charged for the duration of their parking. For this, we apologise to those supporters affected.

"The club is fully aware of this technical issue for a minority of supporters and is in the process of providing refunds for all those affected. For any supporter requiring further assistance, please email carparks@bwfc.co.uk."
