A Bolton organisation which uses light exercise and nature to boost mental and physical wellbeing has been awarded £20,000 of National Lottery funding.

Get Up Keep Going CIC was started 12 months ago by health and wellness coach Sharon Bailey.

A CIC is a Community Interest Company for social enterprises wanting to use profits and assets for the public good.

Sharon, who became a qualified Iyengar Yoga teacher in 2000, then embarked on a journey of helping people to become mentally and physically stronger.

She uses one-to-one sessions, classes, workshops, retreats and walks as well as working online focussing on nutrition and self-help.

Since setting up the CIC, she has had support from a variety of local groups and companies including Proper Good, Asda Community Bolton and Bolton CVS.

She is working with Bolton Council, Bolton Cares and Age UK Bolton and the Woodland Trust with funding also coming from Bloomfield Accountants, Mo Power Strength, Loving my Socials and AAC Physiotherapy.

Sharon also works with the Ladies Empowerment Circle on walks and wellbeing events and starts a six week walk and talk project with the Church of the Nazarene in Brownlow Fold this month.

She holds multiple classes each week at various venues and specialises in holding yoga classes outdoors by picturesque lakes as well as appreciating the West Pennine Moors around Bolton.

Her work across the board includes children, young people, adults with disabilities and people with ill health or age-related problems. She also supports carers and those feeling isolated or lonely in the community.

“This National Lottery funding will make a big difference to the events and work I can create around Bolton and the surrounding area,” explained Sharon.

“I know from my own experiences with yoga, exercise and walking just how beneficial to our all-round health they can be and I love sharing this and helping people regain their confidence and calm.

“I know this works from the many testimonials I’ve received but the pleasure of seeing individuals thrive and improve their lives is always new and exciting.”
