A Bolton resident has shared his concerns over ‘dangerous potholes’ which are like ‘bomb craters’ in Tonge Fold.

The man said the state of Penrose Street is dangerous and is causing a problem for local businesses and is a danger to residents as an old man fell.

He said he reported the potholes through the Fix my Street App three weeks ago on April 18 and the potholes were ignored by the council.

After contacting Cllr Nick Peel, the man said some repairs were done but says they are not up to standard and the road is still dangerous.

The Bolton News:

He said: “These potholes were reported first three weeks to Highways via the ‘Fix My Street’ app.

“As soon as a report is sent Bolton Council highways receive it immediately with pictures.

“There were two more follow up reports and again they would have received it immediately so there is no excuse as to why these dangerous potholes have been ignored.

“Vehicles have been damaged, and I was told an old man fell in one of them.

“If an inspector had been out they would issue an immediate repair due to the seriousness of these 'bomb craters'.

“This issue is mirrored all over Bolton where roads are being left to crumble and we are told there is no money.

“But there is plenty of money for cycle lane projects all over Bolton which are still ongoing and the cost of powering the CAZ cameras.

"Highways only sent someone out after I contacted Cllr Peel and have carried out very poor repairs and as cheap as possible.

"The condition of this access road is appalling and minimal repairs undertaken."

Cllr Emily Mort, a ward councillor in Tonge with Haulgh said if residents feel their concerns are not being addressed, she advises them to contact ward councillors who can push it further.

She said: “What I would always say if residents are not getting the response that they would expect when they report it in through the channels, then please feel free to get in touch with one of us.

“We are here to get things reviewed if they have been missed for any reason.

“Speak to your ward councillors if you’re concerned, we can look at the situation on individual cases and ask the safety teams and highways to review it.

“We are aware that there are potholes absolutely everywhere and we have to keep banging the drum about we have had our funding cut so badly over the last 13 years and the authority is doing the best that it can do but if there are specific things we do rely on the community because we can’t be everywhere.

“Ward councillors are always available via email and phone and our contact details are all on the council website.

“If residents feel like they are not getting the response that is acceptable, contact us, that is what we are here for.

“I will go and check the road and I am happy to follow up the concerns for Penrose Street.”

Cllr Mort said she would also advise people to report potholes to streetcare@bolton.gov.uk.
