Golfers will be clubbing together to complete a half-marathon while playing two rounds in aid of a good cause.

Members at Turton Golf Club will play two rounds of golf - 36 holes - on Friday, June 7.

The distance in playing the games will equate to a half marathon.

The fundraiser is as part of a wider family fun day between 12.30pm and 11pm, which will have fun, games and food, all to raise money for Prostate Cancer UK

David Boothroyd has been doing the fundraising event for years, but this time the event will be on a much bigger scale.

He said: "For five years now, I have raised money for Prostate Cancer UK at Turton Golf Club. "I have done smaller things, like raffles and such, encouraging people to support it - over the years I have raised £10k.

"This year, things changed when the Lady Captain of our club chose Prostate Cancer UK as the charity - our captains pick a charity to represent each year.

"When I received the message I was absolutely delighted, so it has gone off the scale with what we are doing, quite a few things are going on."

The day will include a live auction, a raffle, a chipping competition, beat the goalie, a beer tent, a DJ and singer, a classic car display, a Rieker shoes and handbags stall and golf accessories.

There will also be street food stalls, including a burger bar, Asian cuisine, Wings & Things, and more.

David continued: "My father-in-law passed away with prostate cancer in 2017, at that point I took stock of where I was going, I had been a civil servant for 42 years and in 2018 I gave them 10 months notice of my retirement.

"I went up to the club, got golf lessons, started playing and joined the club. Someone said to me why not put an event on for prostate cancer, to keep my father-in-law's memory alive and my mother-in-law happy.

"I started doing it from 2020 onwards."
