A Horwich councillor has shared his gratitude and thanks to emergency services and residents who helped him today when he was involved in a crash.

Cllr David Grant was driving on Crown Lane this morning with his eight-year-old son, Harrison, in the car.

Despite the collision, they are both doing well but are bruised and took themselves to hospital to be checked over.

And now Cllr Grant wants to thank all the people who came to help him.

He said: “We are a bit bruised and a bit sore but there are no serious or long-term injuries which is good, cars can always be replaced.

“We took ourselves to hospital, I had my eight year old in the car with me as I was taking him to school heading down Crown Lane towards Blackrod when the crash happened.

“The fire service responded incredibly quickly, and a lot of residents came out to help, lots of people offered to provide CCTV footage because they all saw it.

“I was in shock at the time, and I was just helping my son out as that was really important, we have all been checked out now at the hospital and we are all fine.

“We have some bruises and scrapes, but it shows the importance of seatbelts.

“My car is a write-off.

“But I would like to thank emergency services and the community.

“Everyone came out to assist us, you know it was rush hour and everyone was going to work and school but people came out to help us and offer their assistance.

“The local community spirit was there to help people in need which was great.

“The fire service were also really good with Harrison, they went through some basic triage with him which was really good to see.

“A local resident called the ambulance, and they said it could be a wait of up to five hours but then the fire service called the ambulance, and they were there 10 or 15 minutes later.

“I’m just grateful.”

The road was cordoned off from around 8.30am and re-opened at around 10.20am.
