A former footballer with one appearance for Bolton Wanderers is one of the richest people under the age of 40 in the North West according to The Sunday Times Rich List.

Reece Wabara played once for The Whites in a 1-1 draw against Bristol Rovers but retired aged 26 at the end of the same season to focus on fashion firm Manière De Voir.

According to The Sunday Times Rich List, which is to be published by the national newspaper this weekend, Mr Wabara is worth more than £80 million making him one of the richest people under the age of 40 in the North West.

Only the Duke of Westminster and the co-founders of fashion firm Castore, Philip Beahon and Thomas Beahon, are worth more in the same age range and the same region.

Meanwhile Sir Jim Ratcliffe is the richest person of any age in the North West but the Manchester United owner's fortune of almost £24 billion is down £6 billion on last year.

Nationwide the number of billionaires in The Sunday Times Rich List on the way down from its peak in 2022.

Robert Watts, the compiler of The Sunday Times Rich List, said: "[The list] suggests Britain's billionaire boom has come to an end. Many of our entrepreneurs have seen their fortunes fall and some of the super-rich are moving away. 

"Thousands of British livelihoods rely on the super-rich to some extent. We'll have to wait and see whether we have reached peak billionaire and what it means for our economy."

1) Jim Ratcliffe - Manufacturing (Ineos) - £24 billion

2) Michael Platt - Investment (BlueCrest Capital), £12 billion

3) Hugh Grosvenor, Duke of Westminster - Property (Grosvenor Group), £10 billion

Under 40s in the North West

1) Hugh Grosvenor, Duke of Westminster - Property (Grosvenor Group), £10 billion

2) Phil Beahon and Tom Beahon - Fashion (Castore), £334 million

3) Reece Wabara - Fashion (Manière De Voir), £83 million
