Dumped waste on private land which is spilling over in to a ‘wildlife haven’ continues to cause issues in Great Lever.
Last month, Crescent Road residents told The Bolton News that they were looking to move over the ‘eyesore’, which has been blighting the area for months.
According to a council executive member, people are arriving late in to the night to dump a ‘wagon load’ of ‘building-type waste’ on to the site.
Weeks on, residents say the waste still hasn’t been moved – and some are fed up of waiting.
@theboltonnews A council investigation is underway after rubble, debris and building materials appear to have been dumped on land in Great Lever. Residents of Crescent Road have shared their upset over the ‘eyesore’, which has begun to spill over the land’s boundary onto the Beehive Pond land. Shaun Bygraves, who lives on the other side of the pond, said he and his wife no longer fully opened their blinds as they are so sick of seeing the dumped rubbish - and now they might move away. Great Lever’s Cllr Karen Hon sympathised with residents’ concerns.
Ms Hon said: “We initially turned up and it looked like they were going to be doing an extension initially. The initial complaint I got was early autumn, and then the amount of rubbish that is now there is obviously quite considerable compared to what was there in early autumn.
“They cleaned up the front bit and obviously got past the enforcement, but then since have dumped more rubbish.
“I agree with residents that it’s taking too long and maybe the process needs reviewing, we are having a meeting as to why in this particular incident the process [is taking so long].
“In the meantime, we’re very thankful to residents who are keeping us up to date and informed as to what’s going on at this particular site, because it’s rapidly changing and there are continued incidences that are happening.
“Without them, it would have been difficult for us to keep on top of it. We really, really appreciate the residents co-operating with us on this incident, and apologise for the frustration they’re having, the fact it’s taking too long to deal with.”

Cllr Sue Haworth, executive member for regulatory services, said: “I’m very grateful to residents who are relentless in reporting these heinous acts of persons arriving as late as 9pm onwards to dump a wagon load of general and building type waste up a short side street at Crescent Road, Great Lever.
“Whether private or public land, offenders be warned that the council will not hesitate to fine and prosecute fly tipping crimes, acts that are vile in residential areas in the borough.”
She added: “This spot at Crescent Road is near the reservoir with a wildlife haven of birds and creatures at risk of harm, adding to why residents are incensed about this continued regular dumping of waste at the same spot.
“Great Lever ward councillors are working hard and are determined to help get more offenders dealt with in the ward.”
