The Mayor of Bolton has raised more than £6,000 in vital funds to support patients and families who receive care at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust.

Councillor Mohammed Ayub selected Our Bolton NHS Charity, the official charity of the trust, as one of his three chosen causes to support during his term in office.

Since he became mayor, Cllr Ayub has hosted a range of fundraising events across the community including the Mayor’s Christmas Fair and a Charity Ball in March of this year.

The Mayor also called into Bolton Spin Studio on one of the hottest days of the year to cheer on teams taking part in a six hour spinathon in aid of Our Bolton NHS Charity.

Thanking the Mayor for his fundraising efforts, Sarah Skinner, Charity Manager at Our Bolton NHS Charity, said: “It has been a pleasure to introduce the Mayor of Bolton to the NHS charity sector and demonstrate what supporting a local NHS charity means to patients, families and communities.

“We’d like to thank the Mayor for his support and extend our gratitude to the Mayoral team and everyone who contributed to this incredible total. It means the world to us and those we care for.”

Using the funds raised, Our Bolton NHS Charity is now exploring a number of exciting projects to support people.

This includes buying reclining chairs for patients waiting for planned orthopaedic surgery to improve comfort and reduce the need for a hospital bed.

It will also cover costs of a refurbishment in the staff rest facilities so staff can be at their best to provide safe and compassionate care to patients.

Finally, it will cover the cost of new hot cots so babies who are at risk of hypothermia can stay with mum and be treated on the post-natal ward instead of being transferred to the neonatal unit.

“I’ve seen first-hand the difference donations make to patients and staff at Bolton NHS Foundation Trust and I’m delighted that funds raised throughout my year in office will help continue the charity’s work to make a meaningful difference to the people of Bolton.”

In the twelve months that Cllr Ayub has been in office as the Mayor of Bolton, Our Bolton NHS Charity has created and established a new faith facility and community hub at Royal Bolton Hospital, funded patient information videos for those undergoing treatment for breast cancer, and celebrated 75 years of the NHS.
