Impressive corporate headquarters are all part of big business these days.
But how about this for an office?
Taken in June 1950, this photo shows Ash Leigh on the corner of Markland Hill Lane and Chorley New Road in Bolton which had become the home of the commercial department of No.2 sub area of the North Western Electricity Board.
Firms today like to speak about their green credentials but more than 70 years ago the electricity board staff were already doing their bit. For the homes garden had been cleared of weeds and bushes and root crops had been planted which would be used in the canteen.
At this point around 50 people worked at Ash Leigh and it was thought more would be brought over to ease overcrowding at the Manchester office.
