Human remains have been found in Walkden, police investigating the murder of a man have confirmed.
Earlier this month, a dog walker found a human torso wrapped in plastic in Kersal, Salford.
Forensic testing had identified the man as having been “over 40”.
Now, further human remains have been found in Walkden following the murder.
On Saturday, a dogwalker found “a package containing human remains” at Linnyshaw Colliery Woods, and yesterday further remains have been found at Blackleach Country Park.
Officers believe the remains are the same as those found in Kersal.
Police have identified the victim as being in his 60s and having lived in Salford.
Earlier this week two men, aged 42 and 68, were arrested on suspicion of murder.
The victim is believed to have lived with the two men who were arrested, but they were “not related”.
Detective Superintendent Lewis Hughes, a senior investigating officer, gave a statement to the media regarding the murder outside Blackleach Country Park.
He said: “We are now confident we have identified the man. Formal identification hasn’t yet taken place, but we believe he was a man in his 60s and he lived in Salford.
“We believe he is known to the two suspects in custody. They have remained in custody for questioning as we work to establish how the victim met this tragic outcome.
#UPDATE | Following developments this weekend in #Salford we are confident we have identified the victim, with his family being supported since.

“Over the last couple of days, we have acted on information and had four scenes in place for extensive outdoor searches and one indoor search.
“One of them is at a warehouse in Bury, and three of them are in Salford, including here at Blackleach Reservoir.”
He added: “Today, we have found remains at the reservoir, and last night, a dog walker found a package containing human remains at Linnyshaw Colliery Woods.
“We have also been searching a house in Winton, where we believe the victim and two suspects lived.
“The victim is likely to have died there, most likely in late March.“
Detective Superintendent Hughes added that formal identification should come in the “next week or so”.
He also did not specify which body parts were found.
A torso – consisting of the bottom of the back, buttocks and thigh – was found in clear plastic by a passer-by at Kersal Dale Wetlands in Salford on April 4.
