Police said a woman died after she fell from a bridge on the M6 northbound.
The motorway was closed for several hours throughout the evening as emergency services dealt with the incident.
Officers said they were called at 3.25pm yesterday (23 April) to a report of a woman falling from a bridge at Barnacre, near Preston.
A police spokesperson said: “Emergency services attended and very sadly a 50-year-old woman was found on the carriageway.
“She was pronounced dead at the scene. Our thoughts are very much with her family and loved ones at this distressing time.
“No vehicle was involved in the incident.
“The death is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be passed in due course to HM Coroner.
“Anyone who witnessed the fall or have dashcam footage from the area, are asked to contact police.
“Please contact 101, quoting log 0869 of 23 April 2024.”
The motorway was closed for just after four hours, after which lanes one and two (of five) remained closed late into the evening.
